Luděk Stavinoha is Associate Professor in Media and International Development at the University of East Anglia. His research interests lie mainly in the areas of humanitarian communication, digital migration and border studies. Since 2016, he has been researching and writing about the politics of grassroots humanitarianism and everyday resistance and solidarity in refugee camps in Greece. Alongside academic articles and book chapters on these topics, he has also contributed to a journalistic investigations featured in The Guardian, Der Spiegel, and Balkan Insight, focusing on the political economy of EU migration management and the expanding surveillance apparatus deployed by Frontex and Europol at Europe’s borders.
