Field of specialization, studies, work experience:

Dr. Savvatou Tsolakidou is currently working as Laboratory and Teaching staff at the Department of Communication and Media Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (UoA). She studied Sociology and French Literature at the universities Paris 7-Jussieu and Paris III - Nouvelle Sorbonne. She completed her Ph.D. at the University of Athens. She worked at the Ministry of Education as a policy making expert and was the head of co-funded Structural Fund programs of the European Union. She has been a national detached expert for five years in the European Commission DG “Employment and Social Affairs” responsible for the monitoring of Operational Programs for Education, Human Development, Employment and Social Inclusion. Also, she was the Social Inclusion desk in the framework of the Open Method of Coordination for the joint European report on the social inclusion of vulnerable groups including migrants. Later on, she worked as deputy director and trainer of civil servants/public employees for the Institute of Training of the National Center for Public Administration and Local Government. She has taken part in many research projects and in various Greek and international conferences. She has published research and policy articles on issues such as adult and lifelong learning, the development and validation of competences and qualifications, vocational training, the reform of employment and training systems, the evaluation of European programmes, and reports on social inclusion.

Currently, she is teaching at EMME on subjects related to European policies & programmes supported by the European Structural Funds, organizational communication and human resource. Furthermore, she is consultant professor at the Hellenic Open University in the postgraduate programme “Adult Education”. Her research interests focus on issues such as: education, lifelong learning, adult education, capacity building and skills, issues of planning and implementing national European programmes, social policy and the social integration of vulnerable groups.


Description of prior teaching/training activities:

Among the modules he has taught on both undergraduate and levels, are:

  • Mass media

  • Organizational communication

  • European Union, legislation and policies

  • The European Structural funds and the social state

She also taught:

  • Adult education on postgraduate programme at the Hellenic Open University

  • Human resource development and social and administrative competences development of public employees (leadership, team building, problem solving and negotiation)at the Training Institute of the National Centre for Public Administration and Local Government (EKDDA/INEP). She has more than 2.000 hours of training activity.

She possesses consolidated analytical and drafting skills acquired through the carrying out of numerous reports and comparative studies which has been an essential part of her professional responsibilities as deputy director, head of Unit within her previous jobs positions in Greek civil service and as a Detached National Expert for 5 years at the European Commission, DG Employment.
