Digital Journalism and Refugee / Migration Flow
Thomai Voulgari is a PhD in the area of Digital Media and Mass Communications from the Department of Journalism and Mass Communications of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She holds a Master of Arts (MA) in Digital Media, Communication and Journalism from the same department and a Bachelor from Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB). Her research interests focuses on social media manipulation, disinformation and influence campaigns, social network analysis, anti-immigration discourse and hate speech in digital social networks, echo chambers and filter bubbles in political discussions, arts and culture. Her dissertation specialized on manipulation through Social Media Platforms involving data collection methods.
Awards/Scholarships:
-During PhD studies, Thomai Voulgari had been a scholar of The Greek State Scholarship Foundation (IKY)
-She also received a scholarship Research Grant for Researcher Support with emphasis on Young Scientists (EDBM103) through the Operational Program «Human Resources Development, Education and Lifelong Learning 2014-2020» in the context of the project: “Measuring the influence in elections from political bots campaigns”.
- She received scholarship for remedial teaching in the field of political communication in the digital era.
Thomai Voulgari has presented and published work at many specific conferences and journal publications. She has also worked as a journalist for media specializing in social and economic themes, as well as reporting about culture and theatre. She is member of the Economic Chamber of Greece.
