Pantelis Vatikiotis (PhD, MA in Media & Communication Studies, University of Westminster, London; BA in Sociology, Panteion University, Athens) is an Associate Professor at the Department of Communication, Media and Culture, at Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences in Athens, Greece, where he supervises two research labs on Critical Analysis of the Web and Alternative Journalism, and coordinates the postgraduate program in Information Society, Media and Technology. His research interests include sociology of media, digital journalism, social media, alternative media practices, social movements and activism, media and democracy.

He has also worked at: Kadir Has University (New Media Department, 2016-2019), Istanbul; Izmir University of Economics (Media and Communication Department, 2010-2016), Izmir (Turkey), Panteion University (Sociology Department, 2006-2010), Athens, University of Ioannina (Fine Arts and Science of Art Department, 2005-2007), Ioannina (Greece), University of Westminster (Journalism and Mass Communication Department 2002-2004), London (UK). He has also taught as visiting professor at New York College (Communications Program, 2009-2010), Business College of Athens (Communications Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations Program, 2009-2010), Panteion University (MA Program on Virtual Communities, Department of Psychology, 2005-2006), and through Erasmus Program at the University of the Aegean (Department of Cultural Technology and Communication, 2015), and Cyprus University of Technology (Department of Communication and Internet Studies, 2013). He has professional media experience in the TV industry (SKAI TV, 2006-2008).

Currently he conducts research on Risk Journalism – principal investigator for Greece at the international research project Risk Journalism and Global Justice (2020-2021).
