Methodology of Qualitative & Quantitative Social Research

This course focuses on qualitative research methods. Students will learn about qualitative data collection methods, such as in-depth interviews, focus groups and (non-)participant observation, as well as qualitative analysis methods like textual analysis, discourse analysis, critical discourse analysis, narrative analysis, thematic analysis).

In the quantitative part of the course, students are introduced to the design and conduct of quantitative surveys and content analysis using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences). This part covers the following topics: SPSS environment, data entry, data editing and transformations, data processing, basic statistical tests, and statistical inferences. Students are also guided in writing research reports using the APA.
